Viggo Johansen (1851-1935) was one of Denmark’s most important Skagen painters. Active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Johansen is particularly known for his naturalistic and impressionist style. His work depicts natural Danish landscapes, scenes of everyday life and intimate family settings with a realistic approach.
Viggo Johansen studied art at the Royal Academy of Art in Copenhagen. He later joined the community of artists known as the Skagen painters. The Skagen painters came together in the town of Skagen on the North Sea coast and focused on natural light and working outdoors. Johansen became one of the leading figures in this community.
